1. On Sunday Sept. 2, Redcliffe was broken into, through windows in basement and nursery. Elliot Walker, 16, Harold Jakes, 12, confessed to Sheriff. They denied they had stolen my telescope. Nor had they: the telescope was found in a locked room upstairs. I did not prosecute, on advice of Uncle Henry. 3. In this opus by Finley Henderson, I found a gross error of fact: James H. Hammond, 23 and poor in 1830, had nothing to do with route of S.C. railroad. I wrote Henderson a stern letter of correction.
